Turquoise Scallop Shell
Cupped with a low and shallow form, each shell is made by hand from a sandy coloured earthenware clay. Once dried and fired the inside is brushed inside with a turquoise glaze leaving the base unglazed before firing once more.
My ceramic scallop shell is inspired by the shell motif used in the interiors of Newhailes House. The 16th century Palladian mansion has beautifully ornate interiors where the Scallop shell is repeatedly featured in many different forms; gilded and fastened on the walls, brass inlays in door frames and extensively in the plasterwork decorating the walls and painting frames.
Approx. W 13cm H 3.5cm
Hand wash. Earthenware
Made in Scotland
Each ceramic piece has been pressed and glazed by hand. Due to the handmade nature, there may be pleasing variations and irregularities in colour, size and shape.
